Suga is the third member of BTS to enlist in the military, following Jin and J-Hope. All able-bodied men in South Korea are required to serve in the military for about two years before the age of 30.
Suga was given a special exemption to delay his enlistment until he was 30 years old due to his contributions to South Korean culture. However, he chose to enlist early, saying that he wanted to “fulfill his duty as a South Korean citizen.”
Suga’s military enlistment is a bittersweet moment for ARMYs (BTS fans). They are sad to see him go, but they are also proud of him for fulfilling his civic duty. They know that he will serve his country well and that he will return to BTS stronger than ever.

What to Expect During Suga’s Military Service
Suga will begin his military service with basic training. Basic training in South Korea is very rigorous and lasts for about five weeks. After basic training, Suga will be assigned to a specific unit. He could be assigned to a combat unit, a support unit, or a public service unit.
The length of military service in South Korea varies depending on the unit to which a person is assigned. Combat soldiers serve for about two years, while support soldiers and public service workers serve for about 21 months.
